One neighborhood in Concord has attributes unlike any other in the direct center of our Town. Homeowners who live on Partridge Lane enjoy a single entry neighborhood, similar to Revolutionary Ridge and Authors Ridge; however, Partridge Lane is accessed without a climb onto a ridge and is closer to the center. Sidewalks provide access to our Town amenities, making for a rather short stroll. This executive neighborhood offers a variety of home styles and many residents appear to have chosen to renovate their homes rather than leave this spectacular location. 152 Partridge Lane offers another remarkable method of access to the center. A path through the backyard leads directly across from Haywood Meadow, at the corner of Lexington Road and Haywood Street just one block from the flagpole. Sited high atop Lexington Road sits this dramatic architectural property designed by famed Boston architect Jeremiah Eck and built in 2011. Eck has designed several prestigious architectural marvels in our Town in spectacular locations: just north of The North Bridge, across from Sleepy Hollow, soon to be built overlooking Minuteman National Park, and this state-of-the-art property on Partridge Lane. The back yard offers treetop views; however, winter views open up a long vista of Concord Center and beautiful open sky. It is certainly a special Concord location.
The home’s interior offers refreshing architectural details and an original design. Four floors of finished space comprise over 7,500 square feet of living area. 1,992 of these are at the lowest level, offering a home theatre, wine cellar, gym area and play space. As you experience the interior you would never know how large it is. It is cozy. I admit that sounds ridiculous but it is true! I think Eck’s thoughtful design somehow made magic happen here. There are 16 rooms in total: five bedrooms, five and a half bathrooms, three fireplaces and two laundry rooms. This all creates an outstanding living experience. As you enter the front foyer you will find a one-of-a-kind floating staircase that spans three floors and sets the standard for the rest of the home. The floorplan offers informal spaces that evoke a luxury, hand-built ship. Large windows throughout the home create light-filled interiors that change visually throughout the day. The formal spaces feel more usable than a customary Colonial that offers similar formality. In fact, the whole house does not feel formal at all even though it offers rooms for holidays and large gatherings.
I could easily see a home like this on the Vineyard or in Nantucket. It feels like a vacation property offering every amenity anyone would desire. What a unique way to experience Concord Center. This home feels like a study in opposites: it’s in the heart of everything yet situated on a quiet cul-de-sac, offering significant long views but a low maintenance yard, and boasting large square footage while maintaining a floorplan that allows you to use every room.
The bedrooms feature en-suite bathrooms and access to social spaces on both the second and third floors, which are designed differently than in a traditional floor plan. The primary suite offers soaring ceilings and its own private deck to enjoy the downtown views. This generous outdoor area serves as a private sanctuary away from the comings and goings of the rest of the house.
I have to share that this home must be walked through to truly understand the refreshing design and original details. It is beautiful, uniquew, built to the highest construction standards and has a floorplan like no other home in Concord. I hope to see you at the house!
I am grateful for this Concord family that has placed its trust in me for the effort ahead. This homework assignment is a pleasure indeed!
